I fell in love with strength and conditioning while playing volleyball at the University of Nevada, Reno. In 2007 I discovered CrossFit and loved it. I began coaching and got my Level One in 2008. In addition to coaching, I spent many years competing in the sport of CrossFit. Since having my daughter in 2015 I have refocused my attention/intentions toward staying healthy, strong, and mobile so that I can be the best version of myself for my family.
Competing and training have always been a passion of mine, not only in CrossFit, but in the different sports I played growing up and continue to play now. But once I became a mother I realized that my motivations to train were always outside influences. Upcoming competitions, PRs, losing body fat, gaining muscle, outside opinions of my performances, having "something to prove", etc. were keeping me in the gym. Once I had my daughter all of that changed. No longer was I able to train whenever I wanted No longer was I able to train for hours. And at the same time no longer did I feel the need to "prove something". I only wanted to be strong and healthy for myself and for her. For her to see that self-care is number one. Self-love is number one. And no one outside of yourself can help you with that. Motivation is temporary. It is short-lived. Discipline and making self-care a non-negotiable priority. So now I don't need the fancy gear or competitions or certain music or certain training crew. I can now work out because I love how I feel after. I love how fitness rejuvenates and energizes me. I love being able to try new things because I know my body is capable. I love being able to play and work out with my child. So fun! Fitness is not a punishment, it is a gift. I now have the maturity to respect that.
Movement is medicine. Movement is for everyone. The movement will take you out of the perpetual stress cycle and bring you back to your center. Through fitness, you will find yourself capable of things you never imagined. It is never too late to begin. Yes, it is SO exciting to learn how to do new movements and to build the capacity to do pull-ups, push-ups, rowing, lifting, jumping, etc. I really enjoy helping folks learn to use their bodies to do incredible things efficiently. But the most exciting part of fitness is the rediscovery of yourself. That is my favorite part of coaching. The magic in the movements we do are not just physical and I love seeing the internal transformation of our members. Your struggles are shared. We are all in this together! I look forward to meeting you, guiding you, and giving you the space to help you on your own journey. See you in class! VAMOS!
